Citation Needed Afterschool

Through a weekly workspace, participants generated individual and collaborative books, utilizing photocopiers, typewriters, and a range of drawing materials. Citation Needed provided project-based arts experiences for children in the East Village, amplifying their voices through book arts.

Embracing chance as a creative force, many of the works produced in this class were inspired by unexpected accidents. Each year, after months of dedicated creation, editing, printing, and binding, the authors and illustrators shared their work through a community book launch, hosted at Printed Matter St. Marks. The work produced was aimed at honoring children’s inner worlds, autonomy, and ability to challenge oppressive systems and societal expectations.
