Sunnyside Bookmakers Club

Step into the world of bookmaking with Cristina Ferrigno and Citation Needed Press! This hands-on series invites kids to generate artworks through drawing, collage, printmaking, painting, and other process-based mixed media to develop solo and collaborative artist books.

Each session introduces new tools and approaches, encouraging exploration, visual storytelling, creative writing, and inventive ways of sharing ideas on the page. Students will learn a variety of handmade book formats and binding techniques, enabling them to dream up long-term project goals while expanding their art skill sets. Classes will be held at the Bad Student studio, located inside The Episcopal Mission in Sunnyside.

What to know about the workshops:

Sunnyside Bookmakers Club workshops are drop-in and drop-off. The Bad Student Studio is a professional workspace and children should be able to respect the other children, facilitators, as well as the artwork, materials, and space. This series is limited to 10 seats. Pay ahead of time to reserve your child’s spot.

What to know about the space:

This is a shared space within a church that also houses other programming. Out of respect for the folks who clean the main sanctuary space, we ask that families and caregivers do not wait outside the studio in the hallway, except for pick-up and drop off. Caregivers may wait inside the room to get their child settled, but because space is limited we encourage adults to prioritize room and seating for child participants.

What to know about the Episcopal Mission in Sunnyside:

The Episcopal Mission In Sunnyside is a community of Christian practice that launched in September 2025. The mission is to “let the whole world see and know that things which have been cast down are being raised up, and things which have grown old are being made new.” So nurturing the creativity of kids and adults is central to this mission, as is partnering with Citation Needed and other local artists as they contribute to an accessible and vibrant arts community in Sunnyside.

Note that Sunnyside Bookmakers Club is not a church service and not a recruitment event for the church. It is one way that the Episcopal Mission in Sunnyside is seeking to offer the All Saints building and garden as a blessing to the whole neighborhood, and to nourish our collective creativity and connection.
