WEEKLY WORKSHOPS

Each afternoon, children are invited into a working small art press and art studio. Children are encouraged to follow their curiosities, experiment with new materials, and develop a series of projects over time. We create a joyful, inclusive learning environment grounded in play, collaboration, and critical problem solving. Our approach honors each child's unique way of drawing, reading, writing, thinking, and making.

As a working small press, we support children in seeing themselves as artists, authors, and publishers. Participants build personal portfolios and are continuously invited to share their projects, research, and discoveries with one another. Through bookmaking, printmaking, creative writing, sculpture, drawing games, and other hands-on processes, children explore how words and images can interact.

While these art classes happen in partnership with a church, there is no religious instruction or ritual component to these programs. The Episcopal Mission In Sunnyside is excited to support these clubs because they believe in the work of Citation Needed and they value creativity, exploration, and transformation. These clubs will empower kids to make those values real for themselves.

DAILY FLOW

Every day students will be dropped off between 2:45-3pm. After getting check-in, students have a parent provided snack and free play until 3:25pm. We will spend this time in the garden, as the weather allows.

At 3:30, we will meet for an opening circle, where children will hear announcements, play a game, and be dismissed to either the Yellow (younger) or Blue (olders) studio. Each studio will offer a new technique-based project and time to work on ongoing projects, from 3:45-4:45pm. Students pack up from 4:45-4:55pm and are dismissed at 5pm. Extended day students stay until 5:30pm and can continue with projects or complete homework.

Each class will have several opportunities throughout the year to showcase their work. We will invite families and friends to explore exhibitions, publications, and interventions designed by students on December 17, April 6, and June 17.
